Why do people wear Gemstones?

I could talk about gemstones for days; perhaps even write a book or two. Luckily for you, I’m going to keep this as short and sweet as I can. I’m hoping this can be your reference point for keeping track of the healing properties Gemstones are associated with. Whether you believe in it or not, the lore behind each stone is incredibly fascinating and adds a little bit of character to your jewellery.

Wearing gemstones in jewellery increases their effect as they tend to stay close to your body. Each stone has a unique property and aids you in a different way but combining gemstones that complement each other is said to have a very powerful effect.

7 Chakras

You may have heard of this term before. It’s recently became more known and is mainly associated with yoga and meditation. The general idea is that you have 7 main chakras along your spine:

.Crown Chakra

.Third Eye Chakra

.Throat Chakra

.Heart Chakra

.Solar Plexus Chakra

.Sacral Chakra

.Root Chakra

A chakra refers to an energy point in your body that ideally stay open and aligned. If a chakra falls out of alignment or gets blocked, it can cause a variation of problems depending on which one it is. For example, if there’s a blockage in the Third Eye Chakra, this can manifest into physical problems like headaches. A blocked Third Eye is also associated with those who are not in touch with reality and seem to ‘know it all’.

Now might be the point where you’re wondering why I’m rambling on about Chakras when you are here to learn about gemstone properties. Well bear with me, there is method in my madness.

Essentially, most gemstones are associated with a chakra and focus healing energy to those specific points. Solving problems in your life, physical or spiritual, can be assisted by wearing the correct gemstone or combination of. Of course, you can just pick a gemstone because it matches your lovely new pink shoes but knowing the meanings behind them may prove useful.

Amethyst

Amethyst is such a popular stone in jewellery for its beautiful purple colour and its wide range of healing properties. Its main properties include purification and protection. Amethyst supports you in making difficult decisions, free from emotional interference. With a clear mind, it will enable you to become a better version of yourself, even encouraging you to drop bad habits such as drinking, smoking and gambling. Amethyst unlocks your higher conscious and protects you from negative energies. Overall, the stone covers a range of inner issues and is a great stone to work with. Linking back to what I was saying before, the stone mainly supports the Third Eye Chakra and the Crown Chakra.

Carnelian

This stone is especially powerful and can have drastic impacts on your life. It is concentrated on action and will give you a strong boost of will power. Carnelian will push you to strive for what you want and empowers you to reach goals you haven’t been able to reach for a while. In addition, it is said that carnelian can improve physical vitality. The stone activates the first 3 chakras, the root, sacral and solar plexus chakras.

Onyx

Onyx is useful for directing energy into your goals. If you’re having trouble focusing or are recovering from a period of down time, onyx will encourage focus and discipline. Essentially, the stone is an aid in achieving your own physical and mental goals.

Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is the stone of love, activating the Heart Chakra. It begins by healing past hurt from love, relaxing feelings of mistrust and restores faith in the chance of love. The stone is relevant to all kinds of love, including friendship, family and self-love. Rose Quartz can help you fall in love with living as it opens the heart to the love available to it, which we might not have seen beforehand.

Turquoise

This beautiful blue stone works by activating the throat chakra, helping us with self-expression. It is a stone of self-acceptance as it allows us to embrace each and every part of us. By encouraging self-acceptance, turquoise opens us up to forgiveness, whether that’s from ourselves or from another person. This stone is brilliant to wear in jewellery if you’re falling out of love with yourself and need that boost back up.

There are over 100 different gemstones with different properties, but like I said, I’m not here to write a book. I always add a little sentence about the properties to my gemstone products so watch out for that if you wish to know about the stone in a piece you like.

I hope I’ve proven that gemstones are not just pretty and colourful, and that you found this interesting. There is a lot more written on the internet about this and it can be very interesting if you want to delve in deeper.
